Yes, as soon as I could, I bought a used bike (complete with two locks and Barbie-pink helmet, can you imagine..!?). Riding around the capital is not as bad as you'd think--it's free and as fast as public transit (without the discomfort of being a sardine and/or hassle of getting your stuff stolen by shady rush hour riders), great exercise (and agility-training when weaving through all that traffic!), and it's doing my part to keep these aires buenos! Plus look at all the cool signage and ciclovia action they got going on!
In November 2009, I set off for an extended backpacking trip through South America. The plan: in six months, travel from Rio to Bogota, visiting old friends and exploring new sights along the way. Three months into the journey, and still in Brasil, my original idea (and return flight) were scrapped, and life set free in this great big world began.
