Magic moments

The greatest lesson of humility, gratitude and faith has come to me in the form of a very special little girl from Fujian.

A Week at the Sanatorium

Between the pricks and pokes and pinches and prods, baby Emily and I are doing fabulously at the Hong Kong Sanatorium. Just nine days now until three teams of surgeons work their magic (for 16 hours!) to repair, reroute and reset Emily's internal plumbing. Big thanks to our visitors and the staff here who have supported us immensely and have made my job the easy part! (Surely the sleeping-baby-yoga helps too!)

Introducing my Hong Kong travel buddy

It's surgery time for baby Emily, who was born with her bladder inside out, outside of her body! We fly out to Hong Kong tomorrow morning for a week of pre-op investigations and observation before another (more experienced) volunteer arrives to take over caring for Emily during the actual surgery and recovery.

Happy New Years from Beijing!

I've landed at Hope Foster Home with the amazing opportunity to volunteer teach and care for abandoned special needs kiddos. Here are just a few of my new students and housemates for at least the next 8 months: Arrayah (bowel defect), Jonas (cleft lip/palate), Julia Grace (bowel defect), and Kevin (urinary tract defect). Read my New Year's update here.
